As all children have now returned to a “new normal” in school, our challenge is to reduce, as much as possible, the negative impact this pandemic has had on children’s physical and mental well-being and on their longer-term academic success. We have developed a Recovery Action Plan which aims to support children to:

  • Feel safe and have a sense of belonging
  • Better understand, talk about and process what has happened
  • Build hope for the future
  • Rebuild trust and relationships with adults and peers
  • Have clear structures and routines to follow
  • Learn how to self-regulate their emotions and behaviours
  • Build emotional well-being and resilience
  • Develop better physical health
  • Re-engage successfully as learners and make up for lost learning time

This has been a traumatic experience for everyone in our community. We will need to be creative, flexible and adaptable to effectively meet the extensive needs of our children, parents / carers and staff. But what is needed most of all is love, care, kindness and compassion.
