Years 5 and 6 Mission to Mars

As a finale to their Mission to Mars topic in Years 5 and 6, the children each wrote a non-fiction text explaining all about this exciting planet, which humans may one day inhabit.

Firstly, they studied other non-fiction texts, and tried to make theirs just as informative and entertaining by using a mixture of formal, scientific language and more informal language to hook in the reader. They also looked at tricks to catch the reader’s attention – catchy titles and alliterative subheadings, as well as fun fact boxes full of cool information in bite-sized chunks.  Finally they thought about how they could use photographs and illustrations (all with captions) to catch the reader’s eye and make them want to pick up the information texts and learn all about the ‘red planet’!

Have a look at some of their amazing work.
