Reach for the Sky

Saving our oceans from plastic pollution was the message coming live from reporters in Year 5 and 6 as they visited Sky Studios in West London.

All three classes had a chance to visit the professional Sky HQ where the company broadcasts from, getting a tour of the studios before taking on different jobs themselves. Working in teams split across four studios, they had a half-hour turnaround to record a news story on the plight facing our oceans.

Children had to use different skills to become reporters, directors, producers, camera operators and editors – and experienced working to deadlines. At the end of it they came away with a very professional-looking news segment, and each child got to take a copy home on a USB bracelet. We definitely have some future stars of news broadcasting in Years 5 and 6!
