In Years 5 and 6 we have been playing lots of new games and carrying out practical investigations in maths. So far, the children have become party planners, using place value sheets and counters to help work out the cost of various party supplies. Last week children also had the opportunity to visit a virtual sweet shop, working out the cost of different treats and how much change they would receive.
We have also been using dice to investigate place value further with children competing against each other to create the largest and smallest decimal and whole numbers. All of these activities and games have been really helpful in improving the children’s arithmetic and problem solving skills, as well as boosting their confidence and preparing them for real life situations!
