Maths Activity – Add ‘Em Up

You can play this fun game with 2 – 4 players.    All you need is a deck of cards. If you don’t have one – you can use plain paper or sugar paper to make some cards with the numbers 1 to 10.

Remove the face cards from the deck (Jokers, Jacks, Queens and Kings)

To play:

1. Shuffle the deck and place it face down.

2. One at a time choose 2 (or 3) cards from the top.

3. Add up your total.

4. The player with the biggest total at the end of each round gets to keep the cards.

5. When the deck is finished, the player with the most cards at the end is the winner!

Here are some differentiated rules you can play with:

Level 1: Each player picks up two cards to add together.

Level 2: Each player picks up three cards to add together.

Level 3: Leave the face cards in the deck and pick two or three cards to add together. Jack = 11, Queen = 12 and King = 13.
