This half term our topic is ‘Fantastic Stories!’
We will be looking at the following 5 books over the coming half-term…
Week 1: The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr
Week 2: Rainbow Fish by Malcolm Pfister
Week 3: Elmer by David McKee
Week 4: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
Week 5: Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
Activity ideas to try at home week-by-week…
Week 1: Have a tea party at home with your child’s favourite soft toys! Make sandwiches, cakes, tea or hot chocolate together.
Week 2: Make playdough and use it to make fish, then add colourful sequins or buttons to make the scales (see recipe below).
Week 3: Draw/paint your own Elmer the elephant. Talk about the different colour names and which colours we can mix to make new ones – if you have paints at home practise colour mixing!
Week 4: Pretend you’re going on a bear hunt. Read the story (if you don’t have a copy you can find it on YouTube) and then retell it as you pretend you are on the bear hunt, using cushions or blankets etc to create the different obstacles…or, even better…go out for a walk in the park and pretend you are on a bear hunt!
Week 5: Make a card for a family member or friend telling them how much you love them and send it to them.
2 cups plain flour
2 cups water
1 cup salt
2 tablespoons of cream of tartar (found in the baking aisle)
2 tablespoons of oil
Food colouring of your choice
Mix all the ingredients in a pan and cook over a low heat until it forms into a stiff dough.
Turn out onto a surface and leave to cool.
*Any dough mixture stuck to the pan will come away if you fill it with hot water and leave it to soak.
