Experimenting with Orbits!

In science Year 5 and 6 have been carrying out an investigation to test how long it takes for the planets to orbit around the sun. We worked in teams of 4 to try and simulate an orbit in space. We had 4 different roles in the team to help ensure that the experiment was accurate and a fair test.

•The Spinner – Measures the length of string and spins the ball
•The Counter – Says when the stopwatch should start and finish and counts 10 orbits of the ball
•The Timer – Starts and stops the stopwatch
•The Recorder – Records the data in a table for the group

After we had carried out the investigation, we found the average time for one orbit using our results and presented our results in a scatter graph.
